About us
The Post-Mining Alliance is an independent, not-for-profit group with a mission to encourage and promote the regeneration of old mine sites for the sustainable benefit of the local community and natural environment. Our funding comes from a balance of public and private sources.
Until recently, mine decommissioning and closure activities were not obligatory in most countries, while centuries of inadequate and non-existent mine closure practice have left a huge legacy of derelict mine sites and often impoverished communities. This legacy affects the reputation of the entire mining industry, arguably stifling debate and progress on other aspects of its environmental and social performance.
We assist in the development and application of good practice in post-mining regeneration by researching and promoting good practice and facilitating unconventional collaborations, regionally, nationally and internationally.
